welcome to my virtual home! It’s a bit messy, which you should excuse me for, as like all other busy scientists I don’t have time (and willpower) to tidy up and put things in order.

iCaci in South Park

My name is Hristo Iliev but most friends call me iCaci. I hold a PhD degree in Atomic and Molecular Physics from the University of Sofia, Bulgaria. I’m dealing with computer simulations of nanoscale carbon objects, and as you’ve probably guessed from the name of this site, I am a little obsessed with computers, especially big ones, which are huge part of my life. I co-specialise in High Performance Computing and swing between obfuscated FORTRAN code and cryptic commands in evil UNIX-like environments. I’ve also co-built and still maintain several computational clusters, including the 112-core physon (sorry, Bulgarian only site) of my home faculty. Unfortunately being a scientist in Bulgaria does not quite pay off, so I have an additional IT job in writing commercial software in silly OO languages like C#. Being kind of proud of the things I’ve done I’ve even set up a neat CV page.

I blog occasionally since 2004, mostly in Bulgarian. Unfortunately I lost my database some time ago, but you can find my recent verbiage in the blog section and you can even subscribe to my feeds. But beware — it’s mostly mental garbage, rants and trivial observations over life there. I used to post more frequently on my Twitter account, but since I’m not a true SMS Zen master I usually refrain from posting there.

Being a humble scientist and tech guru, I sometimes share tiny bits of my vast knowledge in the articles section. And I even post in English there. I’ve also started a project to bring the ideas of High Performance Computing to the Bulgarian public in the hpc section.

Oh, and I love cats (especially LOLcats). I make you a cheezburger if you prove to be a kitteh :)

Enjoy your stay and drop me a line if you’d like.
